In addition to their albums Verkade also issued cards for educational and advertising
purposes. These do not meet the criteria of being issued with the intention of being
collected in the true cartophilic sense but were produced as packs of playing cards.
The first to be issued were the 7 sets of "Kwartetspel" (i.e. Card games based on Happy Families in which there are 4 cards in each "set") which were produced in the 1930s. These employed the same superb style of artwork as used in the albums of that era with groups of cards featuring animals, birds, insects, plants etc. Each card was formed by fixing the illustration on to a larger base card containing the set name and identity of the 4 cards in that set. The overall dimensions of each card were 56mm x 119mm.
The 2 packs illustrated below can be identified by the colour of printing used on the box they were originally issued in (Blue and Green) and the colour of the text on the cards (Black for the "Blue" pack and Green for the "Green" pack). There are 40 cards in each pack plus an instruction card.

Thirty years later, the company produced another 2 sets, this time in standard-size
"rounded-corner" playing card format. These were subtitled "Artikelen" and covered the
manufacture of some of the Products produced by Verkade (in the "Red Backed" pack) and the
Range of Products themselves (in the "Grey-Backed" pack).
Each set (of 4 cards) in the "Red" pack depicted the raw materials they used, the various stages of manufacture this went through and the finished product. The "Grey" pack subdivided the various Verkade Products into categories and depicted 4 examples of each type.
Each pack contained 12 sets making total of 48 cards plus an instruction card. The style of artwork of these was quite different from their album cards and, in fact, was very typical of the 1960s.
