Danish Cigarette Cards
A small number Danish Cigarette Companies began producing cards in 1886. The types of issue produced varied between paper (variously known as Poster Stamps, Cinderella Stamps, Samlermaerke, Reklamaerke etc) and cardboard (traditional cigarette cards). Around 20 years later, a few International Companies such as Copes, Lambert & Butler, BAT etc began importing cards for the Danish market.
Small albums began to appear in the mid 1920s to house the cards from some series notably from Bell, Lambert & Butler and the Danish firms Kanaris & Yacht. However, in 1927 an agreement was reached between the local & International companies not to issue cards in their cigarette packets due to the cost of doing so. Hence very few tobacco issues were produced after that time and, of these, most appear to be Cigar & Pipe Tobacco Samlermaerke.
The checklist below contains a summary of the available information on "traditional" Cigarette Cards issues in Denmark (Note that "A" in the final column indicates an album was produced in association with the cards). The checklist does not, however, cover Samlermaerke issues as the equivalent level of information is not currently available.
